Danby House and Exebank

These buildings are falling into disrepair. I have been working for several years to get the matter resolved. I am now working with Hugo Swire MP and we are meeting the Leader of Devon County Council – Cllr John Hart to discuss the matter in February.  Devon County Council own Danby House and Exebank and East Devon District Council owns the land adjacent to Lower Halsdon Farm. I believe we should be working together.

Devon County Council is consulting on the closure of various residential homes within Devon. Exebank is included with these.

I have submitted my view that Exebank/Danby House and the housing land that belongs to East Devon District Council beside the National Land should all be considered together. My personal view is that both authorities should work together in order to achieve value for money for the Council Taxpayer. I am aware that those who live in the special bungalows at the rear of Danby House and the tenants of EDDC will have to be rehoused.

East Devon District Council and Devon County Council have to provide at least 100 Extra Care Homes for rent in Exmouth. Extra Care means that the residents receive at least 10 hours personal care per week.

I have been trying, as your representative and the EDDC Cabinet Member for Sustainable Homes for at least 7 years to achieve a solution. I have contacted the Leader of Devon County Council and now our MP – Rt.Hon. Hugo Swire. I will be attending a meeting at Escot House on Monday 2oth January 2014 to state my views again. Here is hoping it will achieve something!

Co-Op Planning Application

I have objected to the planning application to change Staddons Car Sales in Exeter Raod into a Co-Op shop. In my view the sequential test has not been complied with as it does not include the Hulham Road Stores or The Rivermead Stores. The Shell Garage on its application stated that the shop was the primary use not the fuel service. The accesses proposed are almost opposite the Shell Garage and in my opinion could cause a traffic hazard. A car has recently overturned.

Yu will have read in the Exmouth Journal that this was given approval by the Site Inspection Committee of EDDC Planning. They have now applied for a liquor licence. We will not be able to object as the Shell Garage has one as does Hulham Stores and Rivermead Stores.
